چکیده

Background: Atrial fibrillation commonly occurs following cardiac surgery, particularly after coronary artery bypass grafting. Magnesium, known for its stabilizing effect on cell membranes, has shown promise in preventing postoperative atrial fibrillation. This study aimed to assess the impact of intravenous magnesium infusion off-pump grafting, where maintaining stable membranes is crucial averting this complication. Methods: A cross-sectional was conducted at Department Cardiac Surgery, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, from March 2020 February 2022. Sixty-six patients who underwent grafting were enrolled and divided into two groups. Group (n = 33) received sulfate (10 mmol/2.47gm) three days while B did not receive sulfate. Postoperative occurrence Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within surgery evaluated using convenient sampling. Statistical analysis performed with SPSS version 26.0, utilizing independent Student’s t-test continuous data Chi-square Fisher’s exact test categorical data. p-value ≤0.05 considered statistically significant. Results: No significant differences age or gender observed between exhibited significantly lower levels than 0th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd post-surgery. Additionally, experienced a higher incidence fibrillation, longer ICU stays, mortalities. The detect any adverse effects associated infusion. Conclusion: It been demonstrated that administering intravenously can chances developing demonstrates potential advantages as preventative measure such cases.

Atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass grafting

Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is the most common complication following cardiac surgery with an incidence of 18.5–40 % [1–4]. It is important to prevent POAF because it can lead to hemodynamic instability and the risk of cerebral infarction. Various factors are involved in the onset of POAF, among which those most strongly correlated with it are inflammation, fibrosis, and the fluid ...
